Rasika D St NW: Pricey Palak Chaat
When someone mentioned that Rasika on D St NW in Washington DC serves good Palak Chaat, I was eager to try it.
Like most desis, I have an abiding love for Chaat, Indian street food.
Second, I have had Bhel Puri, Samosa Chaat, Alu Papdi Chaat, Masala Puri, Dahi Papdi Chaat etc on countless occasions but never tasted Palak Chaat.
So led by my curiosity and passion for Chaat, I made time to visit Rasika in Washington DC.
Despite the nice Spinach Chaat, my pick was not good value for money.
Plus, the rude attitude of the uncouth host as I walked in irritated me.
"Shit (sic) at the bar, it is the same menu," the bozo said.
Fortunately, the bartender was a pleasant bloke.
AmbianceWhen I walked in around 11:45AM, Rasika had a decent crowd.
Unlike a lot of Indian restaurants, Rasika has a nice ambiance, pleasing paintings on the wall and well laid out tables.
As you enter, you have tables upfront and to the right. The bar is on the left.
Palak Chaat - Pricey at $9
Without wasting much time, I quickly ordered a plate of Palak Chaat ($9) and a cold Kingfisher Beer ($6:00) to go with it.
Palak ChaatIt took about 15 minutes for my Palak Chaat to show up.
The sight of Palak Chaat was a letdown owing to its small serving size.
Palak Chaat included crisp baby Spinach leaves, sweet Yogurt, Tamarind Date Chutney, Cilantro leaves and Tomato.
It packed a piquant taste and was delicious.
But at $9, the Spinach Chaat is certainly not value for money.
